Sydney’s Lyric Theatre at THE STAR played host to the Gala Australian Premiere of the award-winning musical Legally Blonde on Thursday October 4, 2012 and we were there!
Based on the hit movie of the same name, Legally Blonde is the award-winning London and Broadway sensation that won seven major awards including the coveted Best New Musical of 2011 Olivier Award.
The all-singing, all-dancing romantic comedy is the hilarious story of college sweetheart and homecoming queen, Elle Woods - a girl who doesn't take no for an answer. When her boyfriend dumps her for someone "serious", Elle puts down the credit card, hits the books and heads for Harvard Law School! Along the way, she proves that being true to yourself never goes out of style.
Lucy Durack's stand-out performance as the sorority girl turned Harvard law student is coupled with great on-stage chemistry with co-star Rob Mills. Helen Dallimore also delivers laughs in leopard-print stockings as salon owner Paulette but it’s the physicality of Erika Heynatz's skip rope number that is the show stopper moment of this cheeky, fast paced and fun night out.
Guests at the opening night who walked the ‘purple carpet’ and partied the night away after the show at Marquee Nightclub at The Star included The Veronicas, Paulini, X Factor judge Natalie Bassingthwaite, Adam Garcia, Home and Away’s Dan Ewing, television personalities David Campbell, Michael Caton, Gigi Edgley, Josh Horner, Maria Venuti, Richard Wilkins and Kerri-Anne Kennerley plus stars of musical theatre including Kelley Abbey, Simon Burke, Bobby Fox, Amanda Harrison and Ian Stenlake; alongside the UK producer of Legally Blonde Howard Panter and his Australian co-producer John Frost.
